Coyotes Update:

8/1/11

The 2011 Coyotes season came to an end Friday evening at the hands of the DRS Champion St. Patrick Irish.  The Irish swept the first two games of the best of three series to knock the Coyotes out of the playoffs.  The Coyotes could not overcome early leads as St. Patrick jumped out ahead in both games.  In game one it was an 8-1 deficit after 4 1/2 innings that doomed the locals.  They managed to make it 8-5 after 4 fifth inning runs.  Josh Gregor hit a double that scored Nate Roberts and then two batters later Chris Kubitz hit a three run single that included some sloppy play by the Irish to make it 8-5.  The Irish scored the final three runs of the game to make it an 11-5 final.  Ben Lazzari took the loss on the mound.

On Friday the Coyotes again couldn't overcome an early deficit, this time 9-1 after four.  In the sixth inning the Coyotes showed some life scoring twice to make it 9-3, Nick Latour scored on an Andy Lazzari double and Lazzari later scored on a Jordan Triestram single.  St. Patrick answered with two of their own in the sixth to make it 11-3.  The Coyotes again tacked two on in the seventh to make it 11-5 after Sam Pond reached on a fielder's choice and was moved to third on a Gregor double. After Latour was hit by a pitch, Kubitz knocked in two runs with a single.  The Irish scored one in the eighth and the Coyotes scored one in the ninth to reach a 12-6 final.  Kubitz took the loss on the mound for the Coyotes.

7/26/11

The Coyotes lost the final two games of the regular season over the weekend.  The St. Benedict Saints beat the Coyotes in the home finale by a score of 9-3.

In the regular season finale the Coyotes lost 6-4 to the New Prague Orioles on Sunday afternoon.

The Coyotes host the St. Patrick Irish in the opening game of their DRS best-of-3 season Wednesday night at 7:30.  The second game of the series will be played at Prior Lake on Friday night at 7:30.  The third game (if necessary) will be played Sunday afternoon at 2.

7/19/11

The Coyotes had a rough stretch over the weekend and into Monday night.  The locals lost two to the St. Patrick Irish with a loss to the New Prague Orioles sandwiched in the middle.

Saturday night the Coyotes came out flat and were never really in the game against the Irish.  Nate Roberts started and gave up 6 runs in less than two innings to take the loss.  The Coyotes never really answered and the final was 11-2.

Sunday afternoon was a much better game but the result was not any better as the Orioles won 6-3.  Chris Kubitz started on the mound but came out after 1 2/3 innings and giving up 3 runs.  Chris Lazzari came in and pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings before giving way to Ben Lazzari who pitched six innings, giving up two runs, and taking the loss.  Cord Harguth led the offense with four hits and Jordan Triestram had three of his own.

Monday night was a brutal night as St. Patrick hit everything thrown at them.  Andy Lazzari started and gave up 9 runs in 2 2/3 innings.  The game was 3-2 after 2 1/2 innings but the Irish blew it open by stringing together some hits and were aided by Lazzari walking in two runs before exiting.  Matt Griebel came in and threw 3 1/3 innings giving up 2 runs.  Mike Moll pitched the seventh giving up an unearned run that ended the game 12-2.

7/15/11

The Coyotes split a pair of midweek games beating Webster 8-3 Tuesday night before falling to Lonsdale 9-8 Wednesday. The Coyotes traveled to Webster Tuesday for an early 6:30 start to get the game in before dark.  Ben Lazzari started on the mound and pitched the complete game to get the victory.  Lazzari finished with 7 K's, 3 in the ninth.  The offense was led by Josh Gregor and Jordan Triestram.  Gregor was 3-4 with 2 doubles and 2 walks.  Triestram finished 3-5 with a pair of two RBI singles.

On Wednesday night it was all about offense as the Coyotes came up short against Lonsdale.  The Coyotes outhit the Aces 12-11 but came up on the wrong side in the run column.  Mike Moll led the offense with three hits and Josh Gregor, Nate Roberts, and Nick Latour had two hits apiece.  The Coyotes struck first getting three runs in third and fourth innings to take a 6-0 lead.  Lonsdale answered with four in the fifth and two more in the sixth to knock starter Matt Griebel out of the game.  The Coyotes immediately answered scoring two of their own in the bottom half of the sixth to take a 8-6 lead.  Lonsdale did the same in the seventh to tie the score at 8.  It stayed that way until the ninth when Kevin Kalina hit a solo homerun to take the lead for good.  Nate Roberts was the losing pitcher for the Coyotes.

7/11/11

The Coyotes another late loss to the hands of the New Market Muskies Sunday afternoon. New Market took the early 1-0 after the first but the Coyotes got it back in the third when Josh Gregor doubled and Chris Kubitz singled him in.  The Coyotes gained the lead in the fifth after Ben Lazzari walked, Gregor singled, and Nate Roberts plated them both with a two run single.  The Muskies answered in the sixth scoring 4 runs after Chris Kubitz struck out Mike Carpentier with two outs but reached base after an errant throw to first when the pitch was in the dirt. The Coyotes again responded in the eighth when Mike Moll singled and Lazzari reached on error.  With the two runners on Gregor singled and Chris Kubitz hit a sacrifice fly to give the Coyotes a 6-5 lead.  The Coyotes unfortunately could not hold the lead as the Muskies scored 7 times in the bottom of the inning to cap off the 12-6 loss. Kubitx pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up 5 runs, none of which were earned.  Jordan Triestram took the loss in relief.

7/7/11

The Coyotes came out strong in their first home game in over two weeks beating the Webster Sox 12-1 in 7 innings Wednesday night.  The Coyotes started the scoring early after Josh Gregor led off with a single and then stole second before being knocked in by a Chris Kubitz double.  Nick Latour scored later in the inning on an Andy Lazzari single.  The Sox got their only run off of starter Matt Griebel in the second inning after a Coyotes throwing error.  Griebel got the win after pitching 6 strong innings.

The DRS vs RVL All-Star Game is Friday night in Union Hill.  Nick Latour and Ben Lazzari will be representing the Coyotes.  The homerun derby starts at 7 with the game scheduled to start following at 8.

6/30/11

The Coyotes came out flat Friday night and gave up four early runs to the Union Hill Bulldogs on the way to a 10-2 Union Hill win.  Ben Lazzari took the loss after pitching five innings giving up just those four runs, three of them earned.  Alex Gregor led the offense picking up two hits and an RBI.  Sam Pond had the other RBI on a sac fly in the ninth.

6/29/11

The Coyotes lost to the Faribault Lakers in Faribault Tuesday night by a 6-5 score. It was a well played ball game that was influenced by an unfortunate sky.  With the Coyotes up 5-2 in the bottom seventh inning and the sun setting the Lakers hit back-to-back popups that got lost in the sky and fell in for hits.  Then with the bases loaded got a big 3-run triple to tie the game.  The runner then scored on a passed ball to give the Lakers the lead for good.  Matt Griebel took the loss on the mound after pitching the complete game.

The Coyotes also lost two games in Hinckley over the weekend.  The locals had a 2 run lead over Maple Lake entering the final inning Saturday morning before giving up two runs, one earned, to tie the game at 2.  In the extra inning they gave up 2 more runs and lost 4-2.  Ben Lazzari took the loss in relief.

In the second game Saturday the Coyotes came out flat and lost 4-1 to St. Francis.  Ben Lazzari again took the loss pitching the first 6 innings before being relieved by Nate Roberts for the seventh.

6/23/11

The Coyotes lost a heartbreaker to the Prior Lake Mudcats 8-7 Wednesday night in Prior Lake.  It was a back and forth game with the Mudcats plating the final run in the bottom of the ninth on a suicide squeeze after the Coyotes failed to score with the bases loaded and no outs in the top half of the inning.  Andy Lazzari started on the hill going 6 1/3 innings, giving up 7 runs (5 earned), while walking 1.  Nate Roberts took the loss after pitching 1 2/3 innings and giving up that crucial run in the ninth.  Nick Latour led the offense going 3-5 with 2 doubles, 2 runs, and an RBI.  Josh Gregor was on base four times in front of Latour going 2-3 with a walk, a hit by pitch, 2 runs scored, and an RBI.  Chris Kubitz and Andy Lazzari each had two hits in the game and an RBI each.

6/20/11

The Coyotes won the only game they were able to get in this week defeating the Veseli Warriors 8-2 on Sunday afternoon. Wednesday's game vs St. Patrick and Saturday's game at Webster were both postponed due to rain.

Ben Lazzari got the win on the hill Sunday pitching 8 strong innings, giving up 2 runs while striking out 6 and walking just 1 Veseli batter.  The Coyotes piled up 12 hits in the game.  Josh Gregor, Andy Lazzari, Ben Lazzari, and Scott Greening all had two apiece.  Gregor had 3 RBI in the game.  Andy Lazzari reached base all five plate appearances.

The Coyotes next play Wednesday night at Prior Lake before traveling to Hinckley for a weekend tournament.

6/13/11

The Coyotes lost to the Montgomery Mallards 4-3 Sunday afternoon in Montgomery.  Jordan Triestram started on the mound for the Coyotes but pitched only the first inning after an injury while running the bases in the top of the second.  Andy Lazzari came on in relief and pitched 6 innings giving up just one run.  Sam Pond hit an RBI single in the top of the eighth to score Nate Roberts and give the Coyotes a 2-1 lead.  Ben Lazzari came in to pitch the eighth and after an infield single, an error, and a sac bunt Montgomery hit back-to-back doubles to take the lead.  The Coyotes tried to come right back in the ninth Nick Latour doubled, one of three hits, before Nate Roberts scored him on a fielder's choice to make it 4-3.  Corbin Walters struck out with runners on the corners to end the game.  Ben Lazzari took the loss.

6/9/11

The Coyotes lost to the Belle Plaine Tigers 19-15 Wednesday night in a sloppily played ball game.  Both teams finished with six errors in the contest.  There were 33 hits combined, with the Coyotes being out-hit 18-15 by the Tigers.  Nick Latour led the offense going 4-5 with a double and two hit-by-pitches.  Josh Gregor, Jeff Hohenstein, and Mike Moll each contributed two hits apiece.  Scott Bode hit his first career Coyotes homerun leading off the bottom of the eighth.  Matt Griebel took the loss after giving up seven runs, five earned over 3 2/3 innings.

6/6/11

The Coyotes started their four game home stand off on the right foot by defeating the Union Hill Bulldogs 5-2 Wednesday night.  Ben Lazzari got the complete game win.

Friday night was a game of big innings versus the New Market Muskies.  Nick Latour doubled in the first and later scored to give the Coyotes the early 1-0 lead.  New Market scored four times in the third, highlighted by a 3-run homerun by Kyle Bergstrom.  The Coyotes answered with five runs of their own in the bottom of the third to regain the lead 6-4.  New Market scored seven runs in the top of the fourth and six more in the top of the eighth to round out the 17-7 win.  Jordan Triestram took the loss on the mound.

Sunday afternoon, the Coyotes and Prior Lake Mudcats played to a draw through six innings before the Mudcats scratched out a run in the seventh to open the scoring.  The Coyotes could not manage to score as the Mudcats put up two more in the eighth and four in the ninth.  Ben Lazzari took the loss in relief of Andy Lazzari who threw six shutout innings.

5/25/11

The Coyotes lost to the St. Benedict Saints Tuesday night by a score of 5-2.  The Coyotes matched St. Benedict hit for hit with each team having 9 hits.  Nick Latour had the big hit for the Coyotes homering in the 6th inning.  Matt Griebel took the loss giving up 4 runs in 5 2/3 innings.

5/21/11
