Update:
7/26/10
The Coyotes split the final two games of the regular season this weekend losing 9-7 to the Webster Sox and then beating the St. Benedict Saints 2-1.
Playoffs begin Wednesday night, July 28, at home versus New Market at 7:30. Game 2 of the series will take place Saturday afternoon at 2 in New Market. And game 3, if necessary, will be Sunday afternoon at 2 in New Market.
7/19/10 The Coyotes went 1-2 over the previous week. Wednesday night they lost 4-3 to the Prior Lake Mudcats. Scott Greening took the loss on the mound giving up 4 runs over 6 innings. Alex Gregor had the only RBI of the game as the Coyotes other two runs came unearned.
Friday night the squad traveled to Faribault and came out with a 5-0 victory. Chris Kubitz started and pitched four innings, Ben Lazzari came on in relief and pitched the final five innings to get the win. They combined to give up just one hit in the game. Nick Latour and Cord Harguth led the offense with three hits apiece and Mike Moll added two as well. Harguth had two RBI in the game. Andy Lazzari and Nate Roberts also recorded an RBI.
Sunday afternoon the Coyotes lost 8-1 to the St. Patrick Irish. Alex Gregor started on the mound and pitched 5 2/3 innings before being relieved by Rob Fiebelkorn. Gregor and Fiebelkorn each gave up four runs in the contest. Josh Simon pitched the complete game for the Irish. Andy Lazzari got the lone RBI in the game scoring Mike Moll on a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning. Mike Moll and Ben Lazzari led the offense with two hits apiece.
7/8/10 The Coyotes beat the Montgomery Mallards 2-1 in ten innings Wednesday night. Chris Kubitz pitched 5 no hit innings before being relieved by Scott Greening. Kubitz also got the Coyotes on the board hitting an RBI single in the fourth inning. Josh Gregor got a walk off single knocking in Ben Lazzari in the bottom of the tenth. Greening got the win pitching 5 innings of relief.
Ben Lazzari will be representing the Coyotes in the DRS vs RVL All Star Game on Friday, July 9 in Belle Plaine.
6/29/10 The Coyotes took fourth place in the Hinckley Knights baseball tournament. They opened the tournament with a 1-0 win over the Maple Plain Diamond Devils. Chris Kubitz started on the hill and pitched 5 shutout innings. Kubitz took a no hitter into the fifth when a Diamond Devil hitter blooped a single over the outstretched arms of a diving Josh Gregor. The Coyotes scored the lone run when Andy Lazzari hit a two out double in the 4th and Josh Gregor followed with an RBI single. Ben Lazzari got the save pitching two scoreless innings of relief.
In the semifinal game the Coyotes got off to an early lead against Hibbing when Josh Gregor singled in the second and then was hit in by Chris Kubitz. The Coyotes tacked on five more runs in the third when Mike Moll lead off with a single and stolen base and then was hit in by Ben Lazzari. Andy Lazzari, and Gregor followed with walks and then Kubitz hit a grand slam to make it 6-0. Hibbing came back with 4 of their own in the third off starter Scott Greening. They tacked on one run each in the fifth, sixth, and seventh to get the 7-6 victory. Ben Lazzari took the loss in two innings of relief.
In the third place game the Coyotes played the Champlin Logators. It was a back and forth game with the Coyotes scoring first when Josh Gregor reached on a fielder's choice and stole second and later scored on a fielding error. The Logators then scored 2 in the third to take a 2-1 lead. The Coyotes answered with a run of their own when Alex Gregor walked to lead off the third and was later knocked in by Chris Kubitz to make it 2-2. Champlin then scored 2 more in the fourth to make it 4-2 before the Coyotes answered with 3 of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Cord Harguth knocked in Nick Latour and Scott Greening and then scored on a Mike Moll RBI single. Starter Rob Fiebelkorn ran out of gas in the fifth and gave up 4 runs before he was relieved by Corbin Walters. Walters struggled to throw strikes and gave up 3 more of his own runs. Andy Lazzari relieved Walters after one out in the inning and pitched 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. The game ended with a 11-6 victory for the Logators.
6/21/10 The Coyotes split a pair of DRS games over the weekend. Friday night the Coyotes were tied at 1 going into the 7th at Union Hill before the Bulldogs scored 5 runs. Scott Greening took the loss on the hill.
Sunday afternoon the Coyotes beat the Webster Sox 3-1 behind a complete game by Ben Lazzari. Lazzari walked 1 and struckout 7 in the win. Lazzari also got the Coyotes offense going hitting a double in the bottom of the first inning then moved to third on a Nick Latour single before Josh Gregor hit an RBI single to give the Coyotes the early lead. Webster got their only run in the 5th on back-to-back hits, a double then a single. In the bottom of the eighth the Coyotes broke the tie after Lazzari was hit by a pitch and then Andy Lazzari tripled to score him. Gregor followed with his second RBI single of the game to make it 3-1.
6/6/10 The Coyotes are getting to the end of their busiest stretch of the year, playing 5 games in 7 days. It has unfortunately been a rough stretch for the squad losing the first 4 thus far. The team will travel to New Market this afternoon for a 2 pm game and then will be off until Friday, June 11 when they play at Lonsdale.
5/22/10 The Coyotes have dropped a couple more games over the last week losing 8-1 to Prior Lake, 8-1 to St. Patrick, and 7-5 to Union Hill.
5/11/10 The Coyotes dropped both games the played over the last week losing 13-2 to Champlin Park and 9-0 to Lonsdale. Against Champlin the Coyotes were out-hit 11-5. Only one error was committed by the teams combined. Champlin did a better job stringing hits together and moving runners into scoring position when it needed to be done. Matt Griebel took the loss on the mound. Andy Lazzari led the offense with 2 hits and an RBI. Josh Gregor picked up the other RBI by getting beaned with the bases loaded.
Against Lonsdale the Coyotes were hurt early by a couple of errors. One unearned run in the first cost the squad a run. In the second another error led to six more unearned runs for starter Scott Greening. Ben Lazzari came in and pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up 2 runs, on a two-run homer, and walking 5 while striking out 1. Rob Fiebelkorn threw two scoreless innings in relief of Lazzari. The offense was led by Alan Alger, who had two of the Coyotes five hits.
4/25/10 The Coyotes lost to the Veseli Warriors Sunday afternoon to open the DRS regular season. It was a back and forth game with Veseli getting off to the early lead scoring two in the first. The Coyotes then got three in the third when Alan Alger walked, Andy Lazzari singled, Nate Roberts hit an RBI single, and Jeff Hohenstein hit a 2 RBI double. Veseli answered right away with three runs of their own in the bottom of the third to chase starter Matt Griebel from the mound. Josh Gregor scored in the fourth on another Nate Roberts single to make it 5-4. Veseli scored 2 in the sixth and one in the eighth off of reliever Rob Fiebelkorn. The Coyotes got their final run when Gregor knocked in Fiebelkorn in the top of the eighth.
4/18/10 The Coyotes got the season started off on the right foot by beating the Veseli Warriors 2-0 in a preseason game Sunday afternoon. Scott Greening started for the Coyotes on the mound and pitched 5 innings striking out 3, walking 3, and giving up 2 hits to get the win. Matt Griebel got the save pitching 4 innings of relief walking 1 and striking out 2. Nate Roberts got the offense started with an RBI single in the bottom of the first to score Josh Gregor. Gregor got the other RBI on a sac fly in the eighth inning scoring Nick LaTour.
